Boiled wool has become my favorite material the last year. To create this fabric, knit wool gets agitated with hot water in a process called fulling. This process shrinks the fabric and results in a dense felted fabric. Boiled wool is not so itchy cause of the felting - process, which makes it comfortable to wear directly against the skin.
It is characteristic of the traditional textiles of south america and tyrolean austria.
Boiled wool is elastic and a little water - resistant. It keeps you warm even when its windy.
I use fabric that is made of 100% New Wool, the wool comes from south america and is mulesing-free. I buy the fabrics from a company in germany.
The fabric has a weight of 385 g per m2. You can wash the hoodies in the washing machine (Wool-programme). Then it might shrink a bit and become a bit thicker. If you dont want that i recommend handwash.
Reconsider if you need to wash your garment- wool doesnt need to be washed that often, it works perfectly well to air overnight to give it a fresh touch.
Its possible to impregnate the wool with lanolin, if you have used it a while it can make the wool more water-resistant again.
Try it- its a wonderful material and i just got positive feedback until now!
Now i got a new material: Fleece out of cotton. It is wonderful cosy and soft and is not as warm as wool but warmer than normal sweatshirt- fabric. I though its good to have a material for those who dont like wool because of the itchyness.
Or just to use it for other occassions.
The fabric comes from a company in germany and it is oeko - tex 100 certified.
It has a weight of 260 g per m2.
I also use some different sweatshirt-fabrics, they are all made of 100% cotton.
The white plushig innerlining i use for most of my wooljackets and hoodies is made of NON- COLORED, natural treated COTTON.
A lot of people think its polyester but i´ve decided to take a more expensive fabric made of natural materials.
I didnt want to combine such a wonderful natural material like wool with polyester.
So enjoy nature with a 100% natural hoodie, made locally in north sweden!!!
As lovingly and unique details i like to use handwoven fabrics. I do collect them in different contries or order them direct from the producers.
Some fabrics get locally woven by the Bjärtra Vävstuga, which i am very proud of.
Other fabrics come from thailand and some of them are handwoven fabrics from nepal.
Its hard to get nice handwoven fabrics and it demands long searchings. But i think its worth it and thats what makes my hoodies so unique.
